INTANGIBLES

In this digital age it seems that intangibles such as intellectual property and brands are becoming more important online. This can be seen by the patent wars taking place between corporations fighting for dominance in the digital world. The rewards are so great for the winners that this is becoming an all or nothing battle to find the most popular technologies that people will use to access products and services via the Internet. Whether it is through a tablet computer or mobile handset or their TV at home, digital delivery of digital products and services is the way things are heading. The owners of the intellectual property, that allows people to access the services they want in the way that they want, will dominate. The intangibles are what count in this digital age.

Collapse of Bricks and Mortar

Can bricks and mortar consumer businesses survive in this digital age with more and more online sales being made by consumers? The media has reported again that online sales continue to increase and a number of well known high street stores are struggling this winter. In the UK the high street is struggling to get sufficient footfall to survive and is in dire need of some boost. DIGITAL LIFE

DIGITAL LIFE

With Tablet computer and smart phone in hand, the Digital Human is digitally connected wherever he/she goes, 24/7. More and More things and services are now available in digital format and can be accessed and transferred in an instant around the world. We now live in an increasingly digital world. Digital content and the industry that surrounds it, is in flux and changing so fast that it is difficult to keep up. Slowly, more and more people around the world are getting online and connected. For those not connected through computers or mobile phones will live in another analogue world or as it has been said, there will be a digital divide between those connected and the un-connected. It is a common example given of an Indian farmer checking world prices of his produce via his mobile phone. The 4G phone and other products will soon be commonplace and we will be moving towards a digital nirvana and a life digitised.

HUMANS EMPLOYED BY MACHINES?

2 experts from MIT Sloan, Andy McAfee and Erik Brynjolfsson, have written an eBook 'RACE AGAINST THE MACHINE' where they analyse job growth and it appears to be a trend that corporations are investing more in software and automation and jobs are being given to machines rather than humans. When machines/software can do the job of a lawyer then we humans are in trouble. Would machines employ us humans?

Media reports today suggest that tests done on a number of mobile phones found various bacteria on them. People tend to carry their mobiles everywhere with them and may not realise what lurks on them.

I remember in the early 1980's using Apple computers at school. With his iPods, iPhones and iPads he revolutionised user interation with computers and communications.

Amazon on Fire?

Amazon on Fire?

Will Amazon's new Fire tablet computer dent Apple's iPad sales and dominance? It appears that companies like Apple, Google, Amazon and others are converging in terms the services and products that they offer the end consumer. It was reported in the media that Google and others are essentially media companies now. It seems to be control of what the consumer sees and how they see it that these corporations are after.
